Reading the filings
- The filed amount beats the announced amount.Anima’s Series A press release, dated March 19 to 20, 2024, put the round at $12 million (reported as €11 million by two European outlets). The Form D filed months earlier, in November 2023, with a first sale date of October 26, 2023, shows $14,485,002 already sold of a $14,550,003 offering. Either the filing captured money beyond the announced Series A, such as the seed and bridge financing rolled together, or the announced figure understated what had already closed. No amended Form D or later release explains the gap.
- The filing landed before the press release. The Form D’s first sale date, October 26, 2023, is about five months ahead of the March 2024 Series A announcement. That is a common pattern: institutional money often closes before a company is ready to talk about it publicly.
- The checks are large and few.Twelve investors accounted for $14.49 million, about $1.2 million each on average. That is consistent with a round led by an institutional fund such as Molten Ventures rather than a wide syndicate of small checks.
- A second, smaller vehicle points to more recent activity. In October 2025, a Sydecar administered single-deal SPV named “Anima Iris Jun 2025” raised $128,000 from 10 investors, about $12,800 each. The name suggests it was organized around a financing that took place, or was under discussion, around June 2025. No Anima funding announcement from that period was found, and no Form D has been filed directly under Anima’s own name since November 2023.
- The board named in the filing matches public reporting.Shun Pang (CEO), Rachel Mumford (co-founder and COO) and Inga Deakin (Molten Ventures, which led the Series A) all appear as related persons on the 2023 Form D, alongside a fourth director, Firat Ileri, who has not appeared in press coverage reviewed for this profile.
- Non-dilutive capital was not found. No NSF, NIH or other federal or UK grant records tied to Anima were found in the searches run for this profile, unlike some peer medtech companies.

What to watch
- Whether Anima or an affiliated entity files a new Form D that names the round the “Anima Iris” SPV appears to sit alongside.
- Whether the company or press ever reconciles the $12 million announced Series A with the $14.49 million already sold under the same Form D.
- Any MHRA reclassification of Annie from Class I to Class IIa, which would change the compliance cost of the product going forward.
- Named enterprise or ICB contracts, and any published revenue figures.
